Testosterone, Stress, Sound & the Male Menopause — The Men’s Health Conversation Nobody Is Having
Quick answer
Andropause is the male version of menopause: a slow decline in testosterone from your late 30s or 40s on, causing fatigue, brain fog, low mood, poor sleep and low drive. It’s driven partly by chronically high cortisol suppressing testosterone. Sound healing lowers cortisol, calms the nervous system, and improves sleep, which is where testosterone actually gets produced.
Let’s talk about something men don’t talk about.
Not because it isn’t happening or because it doesn’t matter. But because we’ve built a culture where men are expected to push through, perform, and keep going — quietly, alone, without complaint. Where “I’m not sleeping, I can’t concentrate, I feel nothing, I’m exhausted and I don’t know why” gets filed under “just getting older” and left there.
It deserves better than that. You deserve better than that.
This blog is for the men who are quietly struggling. And for the women, partners, daughters, sons and friends who love them and don’t know how to help.

What Is Andropause?
Andropause — sometimes called the male menopause — is the gradual decline of testosterone and other key hormones that occurs in men, typically from their late 30s or 40s onwards.
Unlike the female menopause, which happens over a defined window of time, andropause tends to be slower, subtler and far less discussed, which means many men experience it for years without ever connecting their symptoms to a hormonal cause.
Testosterone doesn’t just affect libido. It plays a fundamental role in:
- Energy levels and physical vitality
- Muscle mass and bone density
- Mood regulation and emotional resilience
- Cognitive function, focus and memory
- Sleep quality
- Sense of purpose, drive and motivation
When it declines — and from around age 35, most men lose roughly 1–2% of testosterone per year — the effects ripple across every one of these areas.
Andropause Symptoms Men Brush Off
The challenge with andropause is that its symptoms are easy to explain away individually. Together, they paint a different picture.
- Fatigue that sleep doesn’t fix. You’re getting the hours, but you’re waking unrefreshed, dragging through the afternoon, struggling to find the energy you used to have.
- Mood changes. Irritability. A shorter fuse. Low-grade flatness or emptiness that’s hard to name. Sometimes anxiety, sometimes a sense of disconnection from things that used to matter.
- Brain fog. Difficulty concentrating, slower recall, a sense that your mental sharpness has dulled.
- Disrupted sleep. Trouble falling asleep, waking in the night, early morning waking with a racing mind.
- Loss of drive and motivation. The ambition, the fire, the sense of forward momentum — quietly dimming.
- Physical changes. Increased body fat, particularly around the middle. Reduced muscle tone despite exercise. Lower libido.
Sound familiar? For millions of men, these are daily realities — written off as stress, age, or personality. But when testosterone is declining and cortisol is rising, these symptoms aren’t character flaws. They’re biology.
Andropause and the Cortisol Connection
Here’s where it gets important — and where sound healing becomes directly relevant.
Testosterone and cortisol have an inverse relationship. When cortisol — your primary stress hormone — is chronically elevated, testosterone suppresses. This is your body’s ancient survival logic: in times of danger and stress, reproduction and vitality are secondary to immediate survival. Cortisol up, testosterone down.
The problem is that modern life keeps cortisol chronically elevated. Work pressure, financial stress, poor sleep, overstimulation, constant digital noise — all of these keep the stress response activated. And a chronically activated stress response is one of the most significant drivers of testosterone decline in men today.
This is the cycle: stress elevates cortisol, which suppresses testosterone, which worsens mood, sleep and resilience, which makes men more reactive to stress, which elevates cortisol further.
Breaking that cycle requires breaking the stress response. And this is precisely where sound and frequency have a powerful, evidence-based role to play.
How Sound Healing Supports Male Hormonal Health During Andropause
Sound healing isn’t soft. It isn’t just for women, or for people on a spiritual path. It’s a physiological intervention — one that works directly on the nervous system, the stress response, and the hormonal cascade that follows.
Here’s what the research tells us about sound healing effects
It lowers cortisol directly.
Multiple studies have shown that exposure to healing frequencies and sound therapy produces measurable reductions in cortisol levels. Lower cortisol means a less suppressed testosterone environment. It means a nervous system that can begin to recover. This isn’t metaphor — it’s endocrinology.
It activates the parasympathetic nervous system.
The parasympathetic state — rest, digest, repair — is where hormonal recovery happens. Testosterone is produced primarily during sleep and during periods of genuine rest. A man whose nervous system is locked in sympathetic overdrive (fight-or-flight) is a man whose body is not prioritising testosterone production. Healing frequencies, particularly in the lower Hz ranges, are powerful activators of parasympathetic tone.
It improves sleep quality.
Testosterone production is strongly linked to sleep — specifically to deep, slow-wave sleep. Men who sleep poorly have significantly lower testosterone levels than those who sleep well. Sound frequencies in the delta range (0.5–4 Hz) can guide the brain into the deep sleep states where hormonal repair and production occur. Working with healing frequency tracks at night is a direct investment in testosterone support.
It reduces the neurological load of chronic stress.
The constant bombardment of stimulating, chaotic, high-frequency sound that characterises modern life keeps the brain in a state of low-grade alertness. Healing frequencies do the opposite — they create neurological coherence, calm the amygdala (the brain’s threat-detection centre), and give the nervous system permission to stand down. For men carrying the invisible weight of chronic stress, this matters enormously.
The Best Frequencies for Andropause Relief
174 Hz — The Foundation Frequency
Associated with pain relief and a deep sense of security, 174 Hz works on the body’s most fundamental stress response. It’s grounding, stabilising and deeply calming for a nervous system in overdrive.
285 Hz — Tissue Repair and Regeneration
Linked to cellular repair and the restoration of damaged tissue, 285 Hz is particularly relevant for men experiencing the physical effects of andropause — muscle loss, joint discomfort, reduced physical recovery.
Experience the 285 Hz frequency with the free audio bundle that will give you a unique audio experience for pain relief, energy cleansing and cellular restoration.
You get 3 audio files: 1 tone, 1 ambience and 1 guided meditation. Fill in the form below and enjoy, that’s on me 😉
396 Hz — Releasing Fear and Guilt
Men carry a particular kind of emotional weight — much of it unspoken. Feelings of failure, inadequacy, fear of losing relevance or vitality. 396 Hz is associated with liberating these deep-held patterns, dissolving the emotional static that keeps the stress response active.
Delta Binaural Beats (0.5–4 Hz)
For sleep and deep hormonal repair, delta binaural beats are among the most evidence-backed tools available. Used nightly with headphones, they can progressively improve sleep quality and the restorative conditions in which testosterone is produced.
Practical Sound Healing for Men
This doesn’t have to be complicated, spiritual or unfamiliar. Here’s how to bring it in:
- Sleep with healing frequency tracks. Put on a 432 Hz or delta binaural track as you go to sleep. You don’t have to listen actively — let it work in the background. Over time, sleep quality improves, and with it, hormonal recovery.
- Morning reset instead of morning news. The first 20–30 minutes of the day set your cortisol rhythm for the next 24 hours. Instead of diving into stimulating content, put on a healing frequency track. Let your nervous system find its baseline before the day begins. (In this blog article, you’ll find 5 simple morning rituals ideas)
- Use your voice. Humming for five minutes — particularly first thing in the morning or before a stressful situation — directly stimulates the vagus nerve, lowers cortisol and shifts your state. It takes nothing and works immediately. (See my blog on The Healing Power of Your Own Voice for more on this.)
- Protect your sound environment. Background noise is not neutral. The constant stimulation of notifications, news, traffic and high-energy media keeps cortisol elevated. Carving out even 20 minutes of intentional quiet — or healing frequency — in your day makes a measurable difference.
- Consider 1:1 vocal coaching. Working with your voice intentionally — learning to breathe properly, project, and use sound therapeutically — is one of the most underrated tools for stress management and nervous system regulation available to men. Explore 1:1 sessions here.
Andropause Isn’t About Being Weak
I want to address something directly.
There is still, in 2026, a powerful cultural message that men shouldn’t need support — that seeking help is a sign of weakness, that pushing through is strength, that talking about hormones or emotions or energy levels is somehow not masculine.
It’s nonsense. And it’s killing men.
The rates of male suicide, male burnout, male cardiovascular disease and male depression are all significantly higher than they need to be — in large part because men have been handed a story about strength that is simply not true.
Real strength is knowing your body, real strength is taking your health seriously, real strength is doing what it takes to show up fully — for yourself, your relationships, your work, the people who need you.
Sound healing is not a trend. It is an ancient, evidence-supported, deeply practical tool for nervous system regulation, stress reduction and hormonal support. It asks nothing of you except that you press play.
That is not weakness. That is intelligence.
You’re Not Just Getting Older
I’ll leave you with this.
The fatigue, the fog, the flatness, the sleep problems, the loss of drive — these are not inevitable. They are not simply what happens when men age. They are signals from a body that is asking for support, for rest, for a different kind of environment than the one chronic stress has been providing.
Your hormones can recover, your nervous system can reset, your sleep can improve, and your energy, your mood, your sense of aliveness — these are not fixed. They are responsive. They are listening.
Give them the right frequency. See what shifts.

FAQ – Testosterone, Stress, Sound & the Male Menopause
It’s the gradual drop in testosterone and other hormones in men, usually starting in the late 30s or 40s. Most men lose about 1 to 2% of testosterone per year from age 35 on.
Fatigue that sleep doesn’t fix, brain fog, mood swings, disrupted sleep, low libido, loss of drive, and weight gain around the middle.
Menopause happens over a defined window. Andropause is slower and subtler, so men often live with symptoms for years without connecting them to hormones.
It lowers cortisol, and cortisol and testosterone work in opposition. Less cortisol means less suppression of testosterone. Sound also improves deep sleep, which is when testosterone production happens.
174 Hz for grounding and pain relief, 285 Hz for physical repair, 396 Hz for releasing stress patterns, and delta binaural beats (0.5 to 4 Hz) for deep sleep.
No. It’s a wellness support tool, not a diagnosis or treatment. Talk to a doctor about hormonal symptoms.
